Yohimbine for weight loss

In addition to acting on the proportion of calories burned during physical activity, yohimbine acts on body composition through three other different mechanisms:

  1. inhibition of α-2-adrenergic receptors, resulting in facilitation of adipocyte emptying;
  2. increased vascularisation of fat cells. Now, since it has been proven that well-vascularised adipocytes tend to empty themselves of the fats they contain more easily, this mechanism of action is also aimed at depleting lipid stores;
  3. increased norepinephrine production, which, as already seen (in addition to having a thermogenic effect), enhances the activity of hormone-sensitive lipases, again promoting adipocyte emptying.

The side effects, form and dosage of yohimbine are discussed in the section on thermogenic supplements.
