Lorentz provides formulas by which it would be possible to estimate the form weight, i.e. the body weight that a generic population of individuals should take as a reference point to strive for. There are two Lorentz formulae, one for men and one for women. More specifically, for men:
![]()
Where PF = form weight (kg) and A = height (cm). For women, however:
![]()
Again, PF = shape weight (kg) and A = height (cm). As with the calculation of the body mass index, no difference is made here between the various components of the body, i.e. between fat, cells and water, but nevertheless Lorentz’s formulae can still be useful as a rough reference for athletes. Finally, it should be noted that this type of calculation is not suitable for individuals of very short stature, or, more precisely, those shorter than 150 cm.
